Have you ever experienced a discrepancy between the colors in your photos and the actual scenes in front of you? This app offers a solution to help you achieve more realistic and visually appealing photos.

The app allows you to measure the color temperature of the lighting and adjust the white balance setting on your camera accordingly. It also provides the ability to measure the Kelvin temperature of LED lamps and other light sources. Additionally, the app supports basic green/magenta tint measurement, also known as Duv measurement. Another useful feature is the real-time calculation of which CTO or CTB filter/gel to use on your flash light to match the measured color temperature.

But what exactly is color temperature?

Color temperature refers to the hue of visible light emitted by a light source. It is usually measured in Kelvin (K). Lower color temperatures (below 3000 K) are associated with warm colors (such as red and yellowish white), while higher color temperatures (above 5000 K) are associated with cool colors (such as blueish white). In technical terms, the color temperature represents the temperature of an ideal black-body radiator that emits light with a similar hue to that of the light source.

Color temperature is particularly important in various forms of color photography. While the human eye naturally adjusts for differences in color temperature, most cameras now have an Automatic White Balance (AWB) feature that attempts to do the same. However, AWB may not always produce satisfactory results under different conditions. Many photographers prefer manually setting the white balance on their cameras to match the color temperature of the scene. This app enables you to measure the color temperature beforehand, ensuring a more accurate white balance setting.

An additional benefit of this app is its ability to enhance your understanding of color temperatures in your surroundings. By gaining knowledge about varying color temperatures, you can better comprehend and manipulate light and colors in your photography.

How accurate are the measurements?

Measuring color temperature accurately is more complex than it may seem. Furthermore, on phones and tablets, this complexity is compounded by the fact that each device is unique. The app provides uncalibrated values that serve as fairly good approximations. However, by utilizing calibration (a feature supported by the app) and measuring a properly lit white surface, you can typically achieve good accuracy.
